UPDATE 2 | November 6, 2026 – 5:00 pm

(Campbell River, BC) – The Village of Zeballos and Strathcona Regional District (SRD) continue to monitor flooding and landslide risks in the community following overnight evacuations and the declaration of a State of Local Emergency.

There are no significant changes to report at this time. All existing Evacuation Orders, Evacuation Alerts and road closures remain in effect and will continue overnight.

Village of Zeballos Public Works crews will continue conducting regular checks to monitor conditions, as it is safe to do so. Both the Village of Zeballos and SRD Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) will remain on standby overnight to respond to any changes in conditions.

Geotechnical Assessment and Property Damage Unknown
A geotechnical assessment of the affected area is pending to determine whether there is a risk of further landslides and to help assess when the area may be safe to access.

As evacuations took place overnight and access to the affected area remains restricted, the full extent of any potential property damage has not yet been determined. At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of damage to residential properties. Further assessment will be required once conditions are safe.

Current Emergency Measures Remain in Effect:

  • Evacuation Order: Specified properties at 101–118 Maquinna Avenue and 202–216 Pandora Crescent remain under Evacuation Order. Affected residents must remain evacuated until the Order is officially lifted.
  • Evacuation Alert: Properties at 402, 404 and 406 Ferris Road remain under Evacuation Alert. Residents should be prepared to evacuate on short notice.
  • Shelter in Place: Other residents in the Pandora, Gold Valley and Reno Roads area are encouraged to remain in their homes unless directed otherwise by emergency officials.
  • Road Closure: Maquinna Avenue remains closed between 101 and 118 Maquinna Avenue, near Pandora Crescent. Residents are asked to respect all road closures and avoid the affected area.
