Waste & Recycling

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) provides solid waste services to residents living in the Sayward Valley (Electoral Area A) and on Cortes Island (Electoral Area B).

Area A – Sayward Valley

Within the Sayward Valley, SRD provides roadside waste pick-up once a week. If you have extra garbage, you can purchase garbage stickers during business hours at SRD Corporate Office and the Village of Sayward Municipal Office.

Waste Management Service Alerts

Sayward Solid Waste Clean-Up Days is an event that happens three times a year. You can discard household waste items that are too large for regular waste collection on the scheduled days. Upcoming Clean-Up Days can be found on SRD’s events page.

Area B – Cortes Island

Within Cortes Island the SRD provides weekly roadside pick-up waste and recycling. For more information, please see the following resources:

Area C – Quadra Island

The SRD does not provide roadside garbage, recycling and yard waste collection. You must arrange pickup with private contractors. While the SRD cannot recommend a contractor, checking with your neighbours is often the quickest way to identify who provides waste collection in your area.

Area D – Oyster Bay/Buttle Lake

The SRD does not provide roadside garbage, recycling and yard waste collection. You are responsible for setting up your own roadside pick-up through private providers. Alternatively, you may take your garbage and recyclables to a Comox Strathcona Waste Management facility.
