Financial Planning

Our financial plans are part of a suite of comprehensive planning tools which provide guidance when considering service requests, operational priorities and strategic initiatives. Each year, the Regional District goes through a financial planning process to prepare a financial plan legislatively required to be approved and adopted by the Board by March 31. The plan reflects extensive consultation, beginning with staff-level preparations in the fall, followed by workshops and deliberations with the Board of Directors.

2026 to 2030 Financial Plan

The SRD Board has officially approved its 2026-2030 Financial Plan. This plan reaffirms its commitment to strategic investment, responsible financial management, and advancing the Board’s priorities in community well-being, climate resilience and good governance.

Financial Budget Process

The Financial Planning process generally begins in the fall of each year for the development of the next five-year plan. Budget information is published with Committee and Board meeting agendas and minutes as the planning process progresses. These meetings are open to the public and comments and questions are welcome. Please refer to the posted SRD Board meeting minutes for more information.

The Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw must be adopted by March 31 of each year.

Budget Workshops

Every year, we hold a series of financial planning workshops. There workshops are typically held in November and focus on:

  • Electoral Area services
  • Regional services
  • Recreational services at Strathcona Gardens

Strategic business cases for new or enhanced services or projects are also considered at this time. Information we gather at these workshops is then included in the recommended Financial Plan package.
