Bylaw No. 651 would establish a new service that would authorize the SRD to raise funds to pay for the costs associated with programs that provide benefit for senior citizens.
According to Bylaw No. 651 programs that are provided by a non-profit organization and provide cultural, wellness or accessibility assistance to senior citizens would be eligible for funding assistance. A complete listing of the types of programs that would be eligible for funding is contained in Bylaw No. 651.
All costs associated with the service (if established) would be charged to Electoral Area B (Cortes Island) properties and shared on the basis of assessed property values.
Yes, the maximum amount that can raised annually through property taxation would be the equivalent of $0.054 per $1,000 of assessed property values within the service area. Had the service been in place for 2026 this would translate to about $34,742.
