(Campbell River, BC) – The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) Board has approved its 2026–2030 Financial Plan, reaffirming its commitment to responsible financial management and strategic investment in strong, resilient communities.

The plan advances the Board’s priorities of community well-being, climate resiliency, and good governance. Developed through staff review and Board workshops, it balances day-to-day service delivery with long-term planning while maintaining transparency in how services are funded across electoral areas and municipalities.

In 2026, the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre at Strathcona Gardens and the Just Like Home Lodge and Health Professionals Housing project will open — major milestones supporting health, recreation, and accessibility across the region.

The plan also advances:

  • Housing and health initiatives
  • Recreation and rehabilitation services
  • Broadband and emergency alert improvements
  • Active transportation and environmental infrastructure
  • First Nations reconciliation and governance initiatives

The 2026 Financial Plan reflects a shift from major construction toward operations, as new facilities begin delivering benefits to residents. Despite inflationary pressures, the plan balances affordability with sustainable service delivery.

The average residential assessment change across the region is 2.4%.

Tax impacts to the average home, by area are:

  • Area A (Kyuquot/Nootka-Sayward): Increase of $5
  • Area B (Cortes Island & surrounding archipelago): Decrease of $34
  •  Area C (Discovery Islands and Mainland Inlets): Decrease of $1
  •  Area D (Oyster Bay – Buttle Lake): No change
