Public Hearing to commence at: 5:00 PM
Purpose: To redesignate two discrete areas on two properties from Tourist Recreational Commercial (TRC) to Residential (R); AND from Rural (RU) to Tourist Recreational Commercial (TRC), as shown in Map 1 below; AND
To rezone two discrete areas on two properties from Tourist Commercial One (TC-1) to Residential One (R-1); AND from Rural One (RU-1) to Tourist Commercial Two (TC-2), as shown in Map 2 below; AND
To consider a site-specific text amendment to the TC-2 zone to permit an educational/demonstration sustainable forestry operation and spa facility accessory to the principal use. Tourist accommodation / camping use is limited to a maximum of 10 units/sites; AND consider a site-specific text amendment to the Rural One (RU-1) zone to permit low-impact camping to a maximum of 10 sites accessory to the principal use.
Subject Areas: All lands legally described as a portion of the South 1/2 of the South East 1/4 Section 16, Cortes Island, Sayward District, except Part in Plan 31262 and VIP55389 (1180 & 1195 Seaford Rd) AND land legally described as Section 16, Sayward Land District, except Plan 31262, Cortes Island S 1/2 of the SE 1/4 Section 16 & except Plan VIP55389 (1051 Lagoon Rd) as shown in Map 1 and 2 below.


Copies of the proposed bylaw and related information are available for inspection at the Strathcona Regional District (SRD) Customer Service Centre, located at 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, from August 28, 2026, until 4:30 on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The public hearing will be chaired by the Director of Electoral Area B, representing the SRD Board. Anyone who believes their interests are affected by the proposed bylaw amendments will be given an opportunity to be heard at the public hearing. Persons unable to attend the hearing can submit signed written submissions to form part of the public hearing record provided submissions are delivered via post, by hand to the SRD Community Services Desk or electronically to planning@srd.ca no later than 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Submissions that do not meet the above requirements or are made after the close of the public hearing cannot be considered.
