November 7, 2026 - Zeballos EOC Update
UPDATE 5 | Nov. 7, 2026 - 5:00pm
The Village of Zeballos and Strathcona Regional District Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) are now on standby. Both EOCs continue to monitor conditions and incoming weather.
Village of Zeballos staff will continue conducting regular checks throughout the night to monitor conditions and watch for any changes.
We are aware that the community is currently experiencing a power outage. At this time, we have not received an update from BC Hydro regarding the outage or anticipated restoration of power. For the latest information and updates, please visit the BC Hydro website or call 1-800-BCHYDRO (1-800-224-9376).
The geotechnical engineer has completed an initial assessment of the site and recommended reopening Maquinna Road to through traffic, which has now been implemented.
Please note that Maquinna Road remains a no-stopping zone. There is still a risk in this area, and stopping or gathering along the road is not permitted. Please limit travel through the area and only travel through when necessary.
We are awaiting a report with additional recommendations, which is expected this evening.
Both EOCs will review the report and its recommendations and determine next steps. At this time, we do not anticipate any changes to the existing Evacuation Order or Evacuation Alert areas overnight.
It is important to note that this initial geotechnical assessment is just the first step in an ongoing assessment process. Additional assessments, which will require helicopter access, are still needed. We are waiting for a suitable weather window to safely complete this work.
Both EOCs will reactivate tomorrow morning, or sooner if conditions require.
If you have an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
