Campbell River, BC - The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in alignment with the federal government on September 30th. The SRD board and staff are committed to learning and reconciling with the Indigenous People in the region.
In observance, the Regional District Corporate Office on 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River will be closed, and the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex has minimized its operations. On Friday, September 30th, the pool, and arena will be open from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm for an everyone welcome swim, public skate, and pond hockey. The arena will remain open for all pre-booked user groups including the Campbell River Storm Hockey game at 7:00 pm. Regular programming has been canceled.
The federal government officially designated the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a day to honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities, and to commemorate the tragic painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools in Canada.
On September 30th, SRD encourages its employees and others to honour this day whether through personal reflection, education, participating in awareness activities in your community, or by wearing orange to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools and promote the concept of "Every Child Matters".
